Chiro WHAT?!
Its true-some people still don’t know! Lots of people have heard that Chiropractors are good at helping back pain, many associate us with a click or a crack, some even know we treat other joints and muscles in the body-not just the spine.
Allow us to give you a overview of the Chiropractic profession and clear up those unanswered questions.
So, What IS Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system (thats bones, joints and muscles!), as well as the impact these disorders can have on the nervous system and general health.
There is an emphasis on manual treatments including spinal and other joint manipulation in addition to soft-tissue treatment of muscles, ligaments and tendons.
Chiropractors also offer injury rehabilitation through specific prescribed exercises and programs. Helping a patient get rid of pain is one thing but restoring function and ensuring future injury prevention is the icing on the cake!
Chiropractic is a primary healthcare profession, which means you can see a Chiropractor without needing a referral from someone else beforehand. It is the third largest primary healthcare profession in the world after medicine, and dentistry.
Chiropractors are able to fully assess and diagnose your condition and provide treatment including injury rehabilitation exercises.
Chiropractors can also refer for X-Rays and MRI’s and The Woodstock Chiropractor has a great local network to offer this.
All Chiropractors at The Woodstock Chiropractor are registered with the General Chiropractic Council, the legislative body for the Chiropractic profession. They are also members of the British Chiropractic Association and the Royal College of Chiropractors.
And when you talk about Chiropractic? What does that mean?
Chiropractic is the profession and a Chiropractor is the professional working within the profession.
What are some of the conditions you treat?
Many think Chiropractor’s just treat the back. Truth is, Chiropractic can help with a lot more!
Although chiropractors are best known for treating back and neck pain, which they do very well, patients also consult chiropractors regarding a range of other, related conditions.
Here’s some examples:
Back Pain
Neck Pain
Sporting Aches and pains
Joint pains including hip and knee pain from osteoarthritis
General aches and pains from joints, muscle spasms and cramp
Headache caused by neck problems
Frozen shoulder, shoulder pain from back and neck problems
Elbow pain or tennis elbow from back and neck problems
