What is it?

Headaches can occur at any time and can vary in intensity, time and frequency.

The majority of headaches can originate from the joints and muscles in the neck, therefore, cervicogenic, tension type headaches or migraines are common, however, some can be more disruptive to day to day life.

Common Symptoms:

Cervicogenic Headaches:

These are headaches that are caused by referred pain from the neck, typically felt on one side from the back of the head and can radiate to the front above the eye.  This could be from strained or irritated joints or tight muscles.  Causative factors such as, poor seating positions at your desk, whiplash injuries and more.

Tension Headaches:

Characteristically can be felt both sides of the head, combined with a tightening or pressing type feeling.  Generally, it does not disrupt daily routine and is found to be one of the most common forms of headaches experienced.

Migraines:

Typically, can be felt on one side or both sides of your head, pulsating type feeling at times and might (but not always) present with an ‘aura’.  Aura symptoms include nausea and/or vomiting, visual symptoms such as flickering lights, spots or sensory symptoms such as pins and needles, numbness or speech disturbance.
