What is it?

The hip is a very strong ball and socket joint, which has a robust network of muscles, tendons, ligaments and bursa surrounding the joint.  Hip pain can be a common complaint, but pain is not always directly caused by the joint itself, but likely the multiple structures that support and surround it.

Common Symptoms

Symptoms of hip pain can vary, generally it appears on one side, to the front or side of the leg, achy or sharp in nature.  Pain can refer pain down the leg or referral from elsewhere such as the lower back.  Common conditions that contribute to hip pain are; osteoarthritis, bursitis, tendinopathy, muscle strain, impingement and biomechanical changes plus many more.
