Jaw Dysfunction (TMJ Syndrome)
What is it?
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ for short!) connects your jaw bone to the skull. Inside the joint is a disc that enables the sliding hinge joint to move and your mouth to open. TMJ disorders can be happen for a variety of reasons such as trauma or degeneration. This can cause the joint to become inflamed, the disc to be dislodged or the muscles surrounding the TMJ to become tight and painful.
Symptoms
Pain or tenderness either side of the jaw
Clicking when opening your mouth
Aching pain around your ear or cheeks
Locking of your jaw
